Bangkok Events in November 2026: River, Arts & Family Guide

Bangkok in November 2026 brings an unusual mix of royal river tradition, citywide art, live theatre and relaxed outdoor evenings. The smartest plan is to choose events by neighbourhood—not collect a long wishlist that sends you across the city several times a day.
This guide focuses on programmes that travellers can verify through official organisers. One anticipated river-lighting season is clearly marked as provisional; recheck it before paying for a hotel, cruise or transport around a specific date.
Bangkok's November 2026 calendar at a glance
- November 6: Royal Barge Procession on the Chao Phraya River
- Throughout November: Bangkok Art Biennale across 11 venues
- November 14–29: Bangkok Theatre Festival at four venue groups
- November 21–25: EJAN Fair x Moon Rim Lake at IMPACT Lakeside
- November 24: Loy Krathong falls on the full-moon date; confirm individual Bangkok celebrations locally
- Anticipated November 13–December 13: Vijit Chao Phraya river illuminations, subject to final confirmation
November 6: Royal Barge Procession
The Royal Barge Procession accompanies the Royal Kathin ceremony at Wat Arun. Tourism Authority of Thailand information lists 52 barges and about 2,200 Royal Thai Navy personnel on the route from Wasukri Pier to Wat Arun.
This is a formal royal and religious occasion, not a casual boat parade. Dress respectfully, follow security instructions and expect controlled river access and transport changes. Arrive with a viewing plan and a backup area rather than trying to move between multiple riverside points.

All month: Bangkok Art Biennale
The fifth Bangkok Art Biennale opened on October 29 and continues until February 28, 2027. More than 200 works by 72 artists appear across 11 venues, from Wat Arun and Wat Pho to BACC, centralWorld and One Bangkok.
November visitors can build one heritage route around the river and old city, then a separate BTS-friendly route around Siam. Do not assume every venue shares the same opening hours or admission rules.
See our Bangkok Art Biennale route planner for venue clusters, temple etiquette and what to check on the day.
November 14–29: Bangkok Theatre Festival
The official BACC programme lists 103 performances across BACC, TK Park on the eighth floor of centralWorld, T. Namcharoen Playhouse and Tai Siam at Siam Square. Tickets vary by production, and some performances are free.
Choose by language, format and venue rather than title alone. A non-verbal, dance-led or visually driven production may work particularly well for international visitors. Check age guidance and whether advance reservation is required before bringing children.
November 21–25: an outdoor family evening at IMPACT
EJAN Fair x Moon Rim Lake is scheduled at IMPACT Lakeside from 16:00 to midnight, with free admission and Loy Krathong-related activities. The lakeside setting makes it a possible family evening, but IMPACT is outside the central tourist districts.
Plan the outward and return journey before leaving your hotel. A taxi or app-based car can be more practical for a family or group, while event traffic may lengthen travel time. Do not place a non-refundable airport transfer immediately after the fair.
November 24: Loy Krathong in Bangkok
Loy Krathong is observed on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, which falls on November 24 in the 2026 tourism calendar. Bangkok normally has celebrations at multiple waterways and community venues, but each organiser controls its own access and programme.
- Use natural, locally approved materials and follow the venue's disposal guidance.
- Never enter a dark or crowded river edge to launch a krathong.
- Do not release sky lanterns in Bangkok; aviation and local restrictions can apply.
- Expect crowded river transport and allow extra time for the return journey.

Vijit Chao Phraya: anticipated, not yet a final programme
After the 2025 edition, the Tourism Authority of Thailand said it anticipated the 2026 river illumination event from November 13 to December 13. That is useful for early planning, but it is not the same as a final 2026 schedule with confirmed sites and show times.
Wait for the official programme before buying a cruise solely for the lights. Once confirmed, compare a public riverside viewpoint with a boat experience; the costlier option is not automatically the clearer view.
A practical four-day event itinerary
- Day 1—Siam arts: BACC, a nearby Biennale venue and a theatre performance.
- Day 2—Historic Bangkok: Wat Pho, Museum Siam and a river crossing to Wat Arun, respecting temple hours.
- Day 3—Flexible city day: markets, food and an evening river programme only if its official schedule is confirmed.
- Day 4—Choose one: IMPACT Lakeside during November 21–25, or a slower neighbourhood day near your hotel.
If your dates include November 6, keep the procession day largely free. Road, pier and river controls can make an ambitious second plan frustrating.
Where to stay and how to move
- Siam or Pathum Wan: convenient for BACC, centralWorld, theatres and BTS connections.
- Riverside: atmospheric for river events, but choose the exact pier and road access carefully.
- Old town: useful for temples and heritage venues, with fewer direct rail options in some pockets.
- Sukhumvit: broad hotel choice and rail access, though river travel takes longer.
Use our Bangkok neighbourhood guide, BTS versus MRT guide and Chao Phraya boat guide to choose a realistic base.
Planning notes for travellers from India
- Keep the first evening light if your flight reaches Bangkok late; immigration, baggage and traffic are unpredictable.
- Check whether a performance is language-dependent before booking.
- Carry a modest layer for temples and strongly air-conditioned venues.
- Use official event pages for dates, not an old poster or reposted social image.
- Ask for an itemised package quote showing event tickets, transfers and free time separately.
A suitable Bangkok package should protect fixed event dates while leaving room for weather, crowds and schedule updates.
