Pak Nam Pho: Thailand's Most Legendary CNY
While Bangkok has the scale, Nakhon Sawan (known locally as Pak Nam Pho) has the most spectacular and traditional Chinese New Year celebrations in Thailand. The festival here lasts for 12 days and 12 nights, culminating in a world-famous dragon parade that draws thousands of visitors.
The Golden Dragon
The centerpiece of the festival is a 100-meter-long dragon that performs gravity-defying stunts on top of high poles, accompanied by thunderous drums.
Chao Pho-Chao Mae Parade
A grand procession featuring beautifully decorated floats, spirit medium performances, and traditional Chinese deities being carried through the city.
Acrobatic Lion Dances
Watch in awe as lion dance troupes perform incredibly precise and dangerous jumps across metal pillars set high above the ground.
Getting to Nakhon Sawan
Nakhon Sawan is located about 240km north of Bangkok (approx. 3-4 hours drive). During the CNY period, hotels in the city book up months in advance.
- Best Way to Travel: Private car or comfortable express train from Bangkok.
- Timing: The main parade day is the most crowded but the most rewarding. In 2026, aim to be there around February 17th-19th.
