Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok returns on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29, 2026. The official programme places the half marathon on Saturday, while the marathon, 10 km and 4.5 km family run take place on Sunday. Even travellers who are not racing should plan around early starts, controlled routes and concentrated activity near MBK, the old city and Sanam Luang.

This independently written update uses the event organiser and Thai government announcements. It does not reproduce another publication's route commentary or spectator plan. Operational details can change, so participants and visitors should recheck the official event site and Bangkok traffic notices close to the weekend.

Official race schedule

  • Half marathon, 21.1 km: Saturday, November 28, starting at 04:00 outside MBK Center and finishing at Sanam Luang; official cut-off is three and a half hours from the last runner crossing the start.
  • Marathon, 42.195 km: Sunday, November 29, starting at 02:00 at Sanam Luang and finishing there; official cut-off is seven hours from the last runner crossing the start.
  • 10 km: Sunday, November 29, starting at 06:00 at Sanam Luang and finishing there.
  • Family run, 4.5 km: Sunday, November 29, starting at 06:45 at Sanam Luang and finishing there; official cut-off is one hour from the last start.

What the route means for ordinary Bangkok visitors

The published courses use major central roads and landmarks including Ratchadamnoen, Rama VIII Bridge, Victory Monument, Phaya Thai Road, the Siam and Ratchaprasong area, roads beside Lumphini Park, Silom, Sathorn, the Golden Mount area, the Grand Palace perimeter and Sanam Luang. Not every road is affected for the entire weekend, but crossings and vehicle access can be controlled while runners pass.

Do not plan a normal point-to-point taxi journey across the course without checking current closures. Rail may be more predictable after services begin, but the marathon and half marathon start before normal daytime transport patterns. Hotels inside or beside the route should provide their current vehicle-access advice.

If you have a flight on November 28 or 29

  • Confirm whether your airport is Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK).
  • Ask the hotel which road remains reachable during race controls.
  • Move the pickup point only after the driver or dispatcher confirms it.
  • Allow a larger-than-normal buffer; a map estimate may not reflect closures.
  • Consider an airport-area final night for an early flight when the hotel sits inside the course area.
  • Keep airline check-in requirements and the transfer provider's contact offline.

Our BKK versus DMK guide explains why the airport code must be stated clearly on every transfer.

Where to stay for a participant

Choose the hotel around the actual start point and pre-dawn access rather than nightlife or a generic central-Bangkok label. Half-marathon runners need a workable route to MBK before 04:00 on Saturday. Marathon, 10 km and family-run entrants need Sanam Luang access on Sunday at different hours.

  • Old city: potentially useful for Sanam Luang, but road access can be restricted and walking routes must be verified.
  • Siam or National Stadium area: practical for the half-marathon start near MBK; check how the route affects hotel entrances.
  • Rail-linked central areas: useful after trains begin, but not a substitute for a pre-dawn race-start plan.

Use our Bangkok neighbourhood guide for broader trade-offs, then confirm race-specific access with the chosen hotel.

A practical race-weekend package for runners

  1. Thursday or Friday: arrive early enough to absorb a flight delay and complete the organiser's current race-pack process.
  2. Friday: keep sightseeing light, preview the start journey and prepare food, clothing and approved race items.
  3. Saturday: race the half marathon or avoid its route while resting for Sunday.
  4. Sunday: race the assigned distance, return to the hotel and keep the afternoon flexible.
  5. Monday: travel onward only after recovery and a sensible checkout; avoid a tight post-race international departure.

A Bangkok package should separate race logistics from optional sightseeing so a tired participant can remove activities without affecting flights and hotels.

Advice for spectators

The official route confirms where runners travel, but it does not turn every pavement into an approved spectator area. Follow police, marshal and barrier instructions; never step onto the course, hand out unofficial food or block emergency access. Choose one reachable location rather than chasing runners across closed roads.

  • Check first-train times if relying on BTS or MRT.
  • Carry water and rain or sun protection without obstructing others.
  • Keep children behind barriers and away from road crossings.
  • Photograph from the side without flash or equipment extending into the course.
  • Agree on a family meeting point because mobile networks can be busy.
  • Wait for official clearance before crossing or entering a road.

Private transfers need a race-weekend plan

A pre-booked vehicle is helpful only when it can legally reach the pickup point. Share the hotel, race category, start time and official route with the transfer provider. Ask for a primary and fallback meeting point, and confirm which person will notify you if the police change access.

Do not ask a driver to stop on a controlled road or wait illegally. The new Thailand private-transfer package guide explains vehicle sizing, waiting terms and dispatcher details.

Race pack, registration and participant rules

Registration status, eligibility, identification, collection authorisation and pack contents should be checked on the official registration portal. Do not buy a bib informally or assume a transfer is permitted. Participants should follow the organiser's medical, cut-off, prohibited-item and course rules for their category.

International travellers should not schedule arrival so late that one flight disruption makes official collection impossible. Travel insurance and airline flexibility are personal decisions; neither replaces understanding the event's refund, deferral and transfer conditions.

Health and weather preparation

A marathon or road race is strenuous. Train appropriately and seek personalised medical advice when needed, particularly after illness, injury or a long travel interruption. Heat and humidity can still matter even with a pre-dawn start. Use only hydration, clothing and nutrition strategies already tested in training.

Visitors should also prepare for warm, wet or humid conditions without assuming a forecast weeks in advance. Check the official race communication and a current local forecast close to the event.

What is confirmed and what still needs checking

Confirmed by the organiser: the November 28–29 dates, four distances, scheduled start times, start and finish locations, official cut-offs and published course routes.

Recheck closer to the weekend: detailed road-closure timing, spectator controls, start-gate entry, public-transport first services, race-pack procedures, weather measures and any programme amendments. Treat estimates from hotels, drivers or blogs as secondary to organiser and authority notices.

Official sources and verification note

Checked November 6, 2026. Baht & Beyond had no qualifying article displayed as published today, so this article used the authoritative-source fallback. The event schedule, routes, start points and cut-offs come from the official marathon organiser; government confirmation comes from Thailand's Public Relations Department.
